What Alice and Miguel needed:

When Alice and Miguel reached out to me about two months before their September wedding, they were hard at work putting together their dream wedding: a high-low, cozy, intimate gathering of their closest friends and family at the Sou’Wester resort on the peninsula in SW Washington. Both writers by trade, they wanted the text of the ceremony to be organized, intentional, and reverent, nestling their favorite poetry in alongside their love story. They wanted their wedding to be a living work of art, with the ceremony’s beating heart right at the center. They wanted to create magic in community— and that’s exactly what we did.

How we worked together:

Alice and Miguel knew that in order to create something truly authentic, they’d need to really open up about themselves: their joys, fears, passions, and vulnerabilities. Before our first meeting, they sent a list: “To know us is to know these texts,” Alice wrote. So I got to work, reading and re-reading their favorite authors, opening myself up to understanding the subtleties of what was coming across. I spent time with Alice and Miguel in their home, learning about their years together, and coming to understand what exactly their love meant to them. And as I began putting words to their story, it began to write itself. This was a story that wanted to be told.

Anna was the soul of our ceremony. She crafted a personalized, beautiful ceremony (it felt like she x-rayed our souls!) and her thoughtful expression of her understanding of our love inspired us to write personal vows with the same level of intention. ... She wasn’t just there to do business, but was genuinely invested in our love.

My favorite moments from their ceremony:

Alice and Miguel’s ceremony became, in many ways, a meditation on the ways love alchemizes fear into courage. I will never forget the lessons I learned from them, and cherish the words we shared. Here’s an excerpt:

“Time and time again, in all my favorite spooky tales, it’s not brawn that ultimately shrinks the monster. It’s love. It’s knowing deeply in your body that you are NOT alone and if you go down, you’re going down together. This must be rooted deeply in our very DNA as a species. From birth, we are wired for connection and togetherness. As we grow there are so many ways we are asked to stand on our own. And that is a part of life, that is something we can take pride in, our belief in our own independent abilities. But sometimes, we’ve done all we can do to face things on our own, and the feeling of fear has only gotten bigger.

This is where love comes in. Love doesn’t ask us to conquer our fears. In fact, I believe, love doesn’t ask us to conquer anything. Love says, ‘I’ll sit with you on that plane. In that waiting room.’ Love says, ‘You’re wondering if you matter. I’ll wait with you while you figure it out, and by the way, you matter to me.’”

Now, please enjoy some photos of the most magical weekend with the most magical folks!
